About the Partnership

BHP Pilbara Education Partnership

The BHP Pilbara Education Partnership has been in place since 2005 with a new iteration commencing 01 February 2021.  A collaborative partnership strengthening a community based approach to ensuring all students start school well prepared, the objective of the Partnership is to enhance education and community outcomes in Newman, Port Hedland, Onslow and remote schools within the Shire of East Pilbara and Town of Port Hedland by focusing on two key areas; The Early Years and Pathways.

The Early Years strategy targets children’s readiness for school by provision of a coordinated approach to engaging families and children with important services and early intervention, supporting children aged:

  • 0 to 4 years – ensuring children are assessed and achieve developmental milestones that prepare them for schooling
  • 4 to 8 years – ensuring children continue to be monitored more effectively and achieve developmental milestones that enable them to continue to be engaged and effective learners.

Early Learning Program

The Partnership supports our on school site Early Learning Program, which provides families with greater access to child development services and a smooth transition to school.  The program follows the Abecedarian Approach Australia (3a); a set of practical evidence-based teaching and learning strategies for early childhood educators, parents, caregivers and children of non-compulsory school age’.
